Meditation for Beginners
As a professional woman constantly navigating the hustle and bustle of daily life, I understand just how challenging it can be to carve out time for ourselves in all the chaos. That's why I want to talk to you about something that has truly been a game-changer for me: meditation.
I know what you might be thinking – "Meditation? Who has time for that?" or “Okay, but what is the goal?” Believe me, I've been there. But hear me out. Meditation for me isn't about sitting cross-legged for hours on end, chanting "om." It's about finding moments of stillness and tranquility in the midst of our hectic lives. And trust me, those moments are worth their weight in gold.
When you begin to meditate, your mind will race. Your mind will take you away from the stillness you are wanting to find. Then gently let your mind come back to a still state and you will begin to feel more calm and in control of your thoughts. This is the state we want to be in during our day, so is the time to practice it.
So, how exactly does one meditate? It's simpler than you might think. Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. That's it. Whenever your mind starts to wander (as it inevitably will), gently guide your attention back to your breath. It's like a mental reset button, helping to calm the chatter of our busy minds.
You can hear the thoughts your mind brings forward, but then let that thought go. You can come back to it later when you are ready to. But for now, during your meditation time, watch that thought float off into the distance, like a cloud, and let it go. A good way to do that is to focus on your breath and go back to stillness.
But what are the benefits, you ask? Oh, where do I even begin? Meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve concentration, boost mood, and even enhance overall well-being. It's like a mini vacation for your mind, allowing you to recharge and rejuvenate in just a few minutes a day. Plus, it's completely free and requires no special equipment – just you and your breath.
On your journey to creating a more balanced life, through meditation, you will start to control and gather your thoughts more effectively. And controlling our thoughts allows us to be present throughout the day, and feel better.
So, to all my fellow busy women out there, I urge you to give meditation a try. Start with just a few minutes a day and gradually work your way up. Trust me, your body, mind, and spirit will thank you for it. And who knows? You might just find that those moments of stillness become the highlight of your day!
